Whose Government is it Again?

George W. Bush, in response to a question about the looming no-confidence vote on Attorney General, Alberto Gonzalez, June 11, 2007, Sofia, Bulgaria:

"Yes, it's an interesting comment about Congress, isn't it, that, on the one hand, they say that a good general shouldn't be reconfirmed, and on the other hand, they say that my Attorney General shouldn't stay. And I find it interesting. I guess it reflects the political atmosphere of Washington. And they can try to have their votes of no confidence, but it's not going to determine -- make the determination who serves in my government."

Whose government is it Mr. Bush?  It's your Administration, but it sure ain't your government.
Please read the Constitution of the United States, a document you swore to uphold and defend.  You've done neither.  Please understand the separation of powers, all power is NOT VESTED in a single executive.  Your power to execute treaties and nominate public officials, among others, is with the ADVICE and CONSENT of the SENATE.  They have every right to not reconfirm a general or to issue a vote of no-confidence on the AG.

Tancredo on Roe

From DH:

When I couldn't sleep last night, I watched some event that most of the Republican candidates were at. They took their turns speaking. The scariest comment of the night came from Mr. Tancredo: "I oppose Roe. I promise to free women from the bondage of legalized abortion."

My response:

Tom Tancredo is frickin' scary.  I don't feel that I'm in bondage over having a choice of what to do with my body.  However, if I am forced to do something with my body that I don't want to, then I may feel like I'm in bondage.
